Common reasons Gemini is not working
If Prismix shows Gemini as "Operational" but it is not working for you:
- High traffic or server load — Gemini can experience slowdowns during peak hours even when technically operational. Responses may time out or take much longer than usual. Try again in a few minutes.
- Gemini Advanced issues — Gemini Advanced (the paid tier on Google One) runs on different infrastructure than the free tier. Advanced features like deeper research mode or longer context can fail while basic Gemini still works. Check if the issue is specific to Advanced features.
- Google Extensions not responding — Gemini Extensions (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Maps, YouTube integration) have their own reliability. The extension may fail while core Gemini chat works fine. Disable extensions in Gemini settings to isolate the issue.
- Image generation (Imagen) down — Image generation in Gemini uses Imagen and can be down independently of text generation. If only image requests fail, this is likely the cause.
- Google account or sign-in issue — Gemini requires a Google account. If your account has a security hold or a Google Workspace admin has restricted access, Gemini may not load. Try signing out and back in, or try a personal Google account.
- Browser or network issue — Clear browser cache, try a different browser, or disable extensions. Gemini uses streaming responses that can be interrupted by aggressive corporate firewalls, VPNs, or ad blockers.
