Common reasons ChatGPT is not working
If Prismix shows OpenAI as "Operational" but ChatGPT is not working for you:
- High traffic / capacity limits — During peak hours, ChatGPT hits capacity and starts queuing or rejecting requests even when technically operational. Free tier users are more affected than Plus subscribers.
- Specific feature degraded — OpenAI's status reports individual components separately. Plugins, image generation (DALL-E), code execution, or Advanced Voice Mode can be degraded while core chat works. Check status.openai.com for component-level details.
- Account or subscription issues — ChatGPT Plus has priority access. If your subscription lapsed or payment failed, you may be rate-limited without an obvious error message.
- Browser or network issue — Clear browser cache, try a different browser, or disable VPN. ChatGPT requires a stable WebSocket connection; corporate firewalls and aggressive proxies sometimes block it.
- Rate limit hit — ChatGPT free users have message limits per 3 hours. API users have token-per-minute limits. Check your usage at platform.openai.com if you are using the API directly.
- ChatGPT memory errors — If the memory feature is enabled, a corrupted memory entry can cause repeated failures in specific conversations. Disable memory temporarily at Settings → Personalization to isolate the issue.
