Common causes of "Codeium not working"

Not signed in / token expired — Codeium requires authentication even on the free plan. In VS Code, open Command Palette → "Codeium: Sign In". If you're already signed in but completions stopped, try "Codeium: Sign Out" then sign back in to refresh the token.
Extension disabled by VS Code update — VS Code updates can silently disable extensions; check the Extensions sidebar (Ctrl+Shift+X), search "Codeium", and verify it shows "Enabled" (not "Disabled" or "Error").
Language server not starting (JetBrains) — Codeium's JetBrains plugin runs a local language server process; if it fails to start (visible in the Codeium tool window), try: Settings → Tools → Codeium → "Reset Language Server".
Completions not appearing in specific file types — Codeium supports 70+ languages but some file extensions aren't auto-detected; in VS Code, set the language mode manually (bottom-right status bar) and restart the extension.
Corporate firewall blocking codeium.com — Codeium sends completion requests to api2.codeium.com; if your corporate network blocks this domain, completions silently fail; check with IT to whitelist it, or use the Codeium self-hosted enterprise option.
Windsurf IDE vs Codeium extension — separate products — Codeium (extension for VS Code/JetBrains) and Windsurf (standalone IDE) are both made by Codeium Inc but have separate backends and status; if Windsurf is down, the VS Code extension may still work. Check Windsurf status separately.
