Sora is NOT a standalone app
There is no sora.com product for general users. Sora is embedded inside ChatGPT at chat.openai.com and requires ChatGPT Plus ($20/mo) or ChatGPT Pro ($200/mo). If you're on the free tier, you cannot access Sora.

Prompt violates content policy
OpenAI blocks: realistic violence, real public figures, explicit content, minors in unsafe situations. Rephrase to be abstract — "a figure in a storm" instead of a named person. Common false flags: "shooting" (ambiguous — use "photographing"), "explosion" (use "burst of fireworks").
Generation very slow / timing out
Sora generates video up to 20 seconds long at high quality — this takes 2-5+ minutes per clip. This is expected behavior. ChatGPT Pro ($200/mo) gets priority compute. Plus users share resources and wait longer at peak hours. Try early morning UTC for faster generation.
Can't download the Sora video
In ChatGPT, hover over the generated video — a download button appears in the corner. Sora generates MP4 files. If the download button fails: right-click the video and select "Save video as". Check that your browser allows downloads from chat.openai.com.
chat.openai.com is blocked / region issues
OpenAI blocks certain countries and regions — since Sora lives entirely inside chat.openai.com, a regional block affects Sora too. Corporate or school VPNs may also block OpenAI endpoints. Alternatives with standalone web apps: Runway Gen-3, Kling AI, Pika, Luma Dream Machine.

Confirm you have ChatGPT Plus or Pro
Sora is not available on the free ChatGPT tier. Go to chat.openai.com/upgrade to check your plan. You need Plus ($20/mo) at minimum. After upgrading, look for the video camera icon in the ChatGPT interface.
