Common causes of "Pika not working"

Generated video doesn't match prompt — Pika processes text-to-video prompts differently from image generators; describe motion and action explicitly (e.g., "a cat slowly walking left" not just "a cat"). Camera motion prompts (pan left, zoom in, dolly) work well; abstract or complex multi-subject prompts degrade quality.
Image-to-video output looks glitchy at edges — Pika's image-to-video works best with images that have clear subjects and simple backgrounds. Images with complex edges (hair, fur, transparent objects) often produce artifacts at subject boundaries; use a simplified version of the image or mask the edges.
Pikaffects (lip sync, squish) not activating — Pikaffects require specific base content: lip sync needs a clear face with visible mouth; squish/inflate works best on simple objects. Pikaffects are applied after initial generation — request them explicitly in the prompt or UI.
Video stuck in "Generating" — Pika processes videos in a GPU queue; during peak times (evening US hours, 20:00–02:00 UTC) wait times can reach 5–10 minutes. The mobile app often has shorter queues than the web app; Pika 1.0 may still show in queue for legacy requests.
Cannot export in 1080p — HD export (1080p) requires a paid plan (Pika Basic or Standard); free tier exports at 720p with a Pika watermark. The API provides watermark-free output on paid plans.
Credits depleting faster than expected — Pika charges per generation attempt, not per successful video; failed generations (due to content policy or quality issues) may still consume credits. Check the request history at pika.art for all charged events.
