I have good news and bad news.
First the good news.
The good news is that we just started production on Thimbleweed Park 2, due out in early 2028.
We will self-publish with the help of a private investor.
Mark Ferrari, Gary Winnick, David Fox, Octavi Navarro, Robert Megone, and others from the original team will be back!
I’ll be starting up a Thimbleweed Park 2 dev blog like we did for Thimbleweed Park and posting regularly to keep everyone up to date.
Now the bad news
There is no bad news, it’s all good news.
P.S. Thimbleweed Park 1 is on sale on Steam, Switch, iOS and Google. But I suspect all my readers already own it.
P.P.S Steam doesn’t show it yet, but there will be Mac, Windows and Linux.
P.P.P.S There will be a GOG version.
Comments:
That's half the fun!
The only bad thing is: now I can't wait for 2028
So hyped
Tovi, french game dev / composer sound designer
We forgot. Too much to do this morning.
Thank you so much for creating all this fun great games!
You have to talk to David Fox about that.
> I can't imagine how you're going to make a sequel considering how the first one ended
It's not like he hasn't got a fair amount of experience by now in recontextualizing what you *thought* you saw in an ending...
Can’t wait!
Alright Ron, I'm ready to be mindblown.
Gerade jetzt erst gelesen!
Bin dabei!
Really nice btw, in 2028 it doesnt matter.
Also, am I correct in assuming this is just gonna be like an alternate universe rather than an actual sequel? Kind of like, say, the Three Stooges shorts, where the characters remain the same but the world is different every time?
Fortunately, the yes votes won.
To celebrate this occasion, I'm wearing my Thimbleweed Park t-shirt.
Can't wait to see what you guys come up with.
The original is quite possibly the best adventure game of the last 15 years.
Hopefully the sequel will have strong puzzle design like the original and RtMI and not too simplified like so many modern adventures.. but I have faith in mr. Gilbert and the team.
Said with the utmost respect and admiration for this ridiculously talented team. I'm just a little too traumatized by meta endings at this point.
Had given up on this.
Finally a game I can put on wishlist.
Good luck and all the best with the production over the next year or two!
MORE RON FREAKING GILBERT! We're so back!
ANd yeah NGL the ending of the first left me there, empty and lost.
I CANNOT wait for this- which means I will very diligently wait without making a fuss.
What about a Physical version? I have the box of the first one and it;s *delicious*!
Anyways lots of love, like really a LOT.
Keep up the great work and OMFG I love today.
You made my day/week/year/decade
I also loved the TP development podcast so keeping an ear open if that is also returning.
one question though: will steve kirk do the soundtrack again? i loved his work and i still listen to TWP OST.
Happy to hear about the new game, though! Wishlisted.
Is the game keeping the same engine? same retro-style?
Question: Will be a box/ signed/ special version like you did for the 1st game?
COngratulations and THANK YOU
A massive thank you to Ron Gilbert, for the first game! I absolutely loved it, especially the ending.
(Monkey Island 2's ending trained me.....)
I thoroughly enjoyed your TWP1 dev blog, and I'm excited to follow along with this one as well!
We played TP on the beach in Tahiti on our honeymoon in Dec 2018, so it looks like I know what we’re doing on our 10-year anniversary! (Maybe this time with slightly fewer layovers…)
Hopefully we can "look at" people this time, I was sad this was missing from the first game. Assuming there are verbs still.
can't believe it. I thought, that you were a bit disappointed about the commercial success of the first game, but i'm happy to read, that someone with money believes in you(The game WAS and IS great). Love you, Ron and wish you and your team the very best. Please take your time and don't forget to take pauses :)
Very much looking forward to it.
Will our speck of dust collection be importable from the first game, or will we have to start from scratch?
You just made my day, what am I saying? My year! After quite some setbacks this year nothing was really cheering me up but this news?
Man this is great!
I have replayed Thimbleweed Park at least 20 times on my Switch and still I'm loving every new round!
Thank you for making this possible, hopefully a Switch release is possible as well but for now I hit that wishlist and follow button on Steam so hard it might be broken now.
Massively looking forward to this!
Here's hoping for a big box release eventually.
