I have good news and bad news.

First the good news.

The good news is that we just started production on Thimbleweed Park 2, due out in early 2028.

We will self-publish with the help of a private investor.

Mark Ferrari, Gary Winnick, David Fox, Octavi Navarro, Robert Megone, and others from the original team will be back!

Wishlist on Steam!

I’ll be starting up a Thimbleweed Park 2 dev blog like we did for Thimbleweed Park and posting regularly to keep everyone up to date.

Now the bad news

There is no bad news, it’s all good news.

P.S. Thimbleweed Park 1 is on sale on Steam, Switch, iOS and Google. But I suspect all my readers already own it.

P.P.S Steam doesn’t show it yet, but there will be Mac, Windows and Linux.

P.P.P.S There will be a GOG version.

Congratulations! I hope it's a big success! Nice to see familiar talent back, too.
druid 20h ago
I can't imagine how you're going to make a sequel considering how the first one ended, but I'm really enthused to find out! I always felt there were hints in the game that the reality of things might not be what we ended up finding out...
Ron Gilbert 20h ago
"considering how the first one ended"

That's half the fun!
Leak 20h ago
WOOOOOO!

Acmeplus 20h ago
Can’t wait. Loved the first one and just read this. You made my day. And the fact that all you guys are involved. David, Octavo, Mark, Robert, etc. Amazing gift. Now I really have something to look forward to 2028 before November :) since this is not a kickstarter, do you plan to do dev podcasts or something similar? Those were great but I totally get if you don’t have the time.
mazerat 20h ago
They managed to make a third Monkey Island. If anyone can make an improbable sequel, it's Ron Gilbert.
David Fox 20h ago
So excited to be working on this, and with a great team again!
Zak Phoenix McKracken 20h ago
Yeah!! Can't wait to dub it in italian!
Agent Cooper 20h ago
My partner and I can't believe you're gonna make a 2nd one. The first one is her favorite game!
Manjit Bedi 20h ago
Oh, fantastic.
The Ol' Brush 19h ago
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Gus 19h ago
This is not good news, it's awesome news!

The only bad thing is: now I can't wait for 2028
Tovi 19h ago
Thank you so much. My wife and myself are totally addicted to old schools quality point and clicks like you guys have done. Keep trusting yourself and do not listen to stupid people telling you how to do what you guys are the best at.
So hyped

Brian Jaworski 19h ago
This _IS_ all good news! Very excited and can't wait for 2028 or anytime this hits the world! Wishing you and all involved the very best. (collector's edition? ;-) )
Gins 19h ago
I didn't expect that at all and I love it.
chris 19h ago

Bert Gilron 18h ago
Yeesssss!!! Looking forward to the blog posts and all. It is not about the destination, it is about the journey. And the humor!
Bryan 18h ago
Curious, why is TP not on sale on GOG?
Bryan 18h ago
Not even sure why I asked that, I do have it already, LOL
Ron Gilbert 18h ago
> Curious, why is TP not on sale on GOG?

We forgot. Too much to do this morning.
caliebre 18h ago
Te como los huevos Ron Gilbert.
Sean 18h ago
I literally just clocked the first one, this certainly relieves my post Thimbleweed depression!
AleBrush 18h ago
Yeeeeees!!!!
Kiitos!!! 18h ago
Greetings from your Finnish fans & thanks for confirming Linux support
Stan 17h ago
Wouldn't you rather buy a boat?
Stan 17h ago
I can give you a very good price!
Stan 17h ago
I only sell high quality!
Daniel 17h ago

Thank you so much for creating all this fun great games!
frisby 16h ago
Do EGA or limited palette - I dare you! :D
Gus Schneider 16h ago
This is great news! Hope you all have fun making the game
frisby 16h ago
Ooh, and fix the thing where the pixel art resolution is different from the lighting resolution... and when sprite scale and pixels shrink.
Delores 16h ago
Bad news are: I have to run the pillow factory... oh, no, wait a minute!
LeChuck Norris 15h ago
I got an absolution certificate for pirating Monkey Island the last time. What are the chances you can absolve people for Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders this time? asking for a friend.
Ron Gilbert 15h ago
> absolve people for Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders

You have to talk to David Fox about that.
arcanetrivia 14h ago
druid:
> I can't imagine how you're going to make a sequel considering how the first one ended

It's not like he hasn't got a fair amount of experience by now in recontextualizing what you *thought* you saw in an ending...
Ken 14h ago
Are you guys considering Early Access?
Deckard 14h ago
I hope TP2 will have the usual set of noun commands and not like the latest Monkey Island which had a contextual point'n'click parading as old system. But oh boy, I am fondling my TP game box right now. Can't wait! :)
Deckard 14h ago
Meh, I meant VERB commands, of course.
Zak Phoenix McKracken 14h ago
Let's just hope the private investor isn't Ozzie Mandrill, the Australian who wanted to wipe out the Pirates with the ultimate insult.
Gins 13h ago
@Deckard I'd love an adventure game with noun commands!
Diduz 13h ago
Yahoo! Bring it on! I'm ready to be confused again! :-D
Markus 13h ago
I love you guys, thank you for that great announcement!
Elaine Benes 13h ago
Will there be a physical big box edition like with the first one???

Can’t wait!
Jeremy 13h ago
Loved the podcast for #1. Hopefully you will be able to do that again for #2, even if it's not crowd funded this time.
Spav 13h ago
The bad news: you’re writing the ending.
Jimmie 13h ago
So happy to hear this Ron! Thank you for doing this. Looking forward to the dev blog.
Denny 13h ago
Amazing! You made my day. Absolutely loved the first one.
Jake 13h ago
Less than 24 hours since Ron announced the game and people are already complaining.
Tale 12h ago
Hell, yeah!
Torbjörn 12h ago
It's too bad the guilt absolution for Thimbleweed Park only covers past crimes. I understand why, of course, but some day I would like to play the EGA version of The Secret of Monkey Island. The way things currently are, I can't.
MacFrog 12h ago
Will there be translations? And, more importantly, will Boris do the German version?
Evan M 12h ago
Woo-hoo-a-reno!
mdrio 12h ago
Yikes!
Ema 12h ago
That means another Fan Dub. We'll have to put the band back together. We're on a mission from God.
Ahhh123 12h ago
Wow! Great news! I hope you will also make a switch version but I am happy anyway!
Fabiano Caputo 12h ago
To everyone wondering how can a sequel be possibile after the previous game: the Steam page says "Not really a sequel, not really a prequel".

Alright Ron, I'm ready to be mindblown.
Darksun1980 12h ago
Congrats! Keep up the great work
Francesco 11h ago
Fantastico!!
SunDancer aka SomeDudeOnYouTube 11h ago
HUZZAH! If there's a crowd funding, count me in!
Bruno 11h ago
thank you! my inner child it's so pretty happy :)
Maskmagog 11h ago
Wow, really looking forward to this game-a-reno! Nice to see the band back together.
Rasho Hyo 11h ago
Welcome BACK Ron Gilbert!!

We are so back! Such a great news to wake up this morning, let's go :)

Hows the weather?

Really nice btw, in 2028 it doesnt matter.
birenbergg 11h ago
Wow! Amazing news!
Coolchicken 11h ago
Mark Ferrari, Gary Winnick, David Fox, Octavi Navarro, Robert Megone... if you'd mentioned even one more name, I would've had a nervous breakdown. What an incredible team!
Christian 11h ago
Yes!! I just replayed the first one! Awesome game! I hope this time the game ends this time!
George Broussard 10h ago
Ron, awesome! Good luck to you guys along the way. Can't wait.
not Ron Gilbert 10h ago
Thimbleweed Park's ending felt like a nasty rugpull. Clever but disheartening. Please don't do it again!
Helvir 10h ago
Now that's what I call good news :D
Nik 10h ago
The bad news is that I can't give you money right now?! I'm already itching to press that buy button.
Dreadjaws 10h ago
Excited for this, but I really hope you're not going to rehash the same ending idea. You finally cracked it with Return to Monkey Island, no need to iterate on the same idea ever again.

Also, am I correct in assuming this is just gonna be like an alternate universe rather than an actual sequel? Kind of like, say, the Three Stooges shorts, where the characters remain the same but the world is different every time?
Ahenobarbus 10h ago
Great news and what a dream team! Good luck guys!
Jonny 10h ago
Great news. I loved the podcast during development. Since this time it's not a crowd funding thing I guess you're neither obliged nor willing to do that again but.... consider it please 😄
El Barto 10h ago
So your "Yes or No?" question on Mastodon was about the possible development of Thimbleweed Park 2.
Fortunately, the yes votes won.
To celebrate this occasion, I'm wearing my Thimbleweed Park t-shirt.
LasseS 9h ago
Wonderful! Finally some good gaming news.

Can't wait to see what you guys come up with.
The original is quite possibly the best adventure game of the last 15 years.
Hopefully the sequel will have strong puzzle design like the original and RtMI and not too simplified like so many modern adventures.. but I have faith in mr. Gilbert and the team.
Sebos 9h ago
Excellent news! Wishlisted the game on Steam immediately. Is there any chance the game will come to Switch like its predecessor, or maybe it's too early to say?
French Chriss 9h ago
We are BACK!!! \o/
Hi_Mike 9h ago
I'd like to join the request: with Thimbleweed Park and Return to Monkey Island, we've already had enough of that kind of ending. We get the idea. Could we have a more... conventional ending this time?

Said with the utmost respect and admiration for this ridiculously talented team. I'm just a little too traumatized by meta endings at this point.
Weed Thimbler 9h ago
F. yes!!!
Had given up on this.
Finally a game I can put on wishlist.
FractalMindMike 9h ago
Hellope. Thank you so much for announcing this news. I'm super excited to see what's happening in Thimbleweed Park in 2028. I also wanted to say - the team collectively have been a huge inspiration for me personally. I really appreciate all that you do!

Good luck and all the best with the production over the next year or two!
MementoMoree 8h ago
OMFG OMFG OMFG! More Mark FErrari? More Ganry WInnick? More David Fox, Octavi Navarro, Robert Megone?!
MORE RON FREAKING GILBERT! We're so back!

ANd yeah NGL the ending of the first left me there, empty and lost.

I CANNOT wait for this- which means I will very diligently wait without making a fuss.

What about a Physical version? I have the box of the first one and it;s *delicious*!

Anyways lots of love, like really a LOT.

Keep up the great work and OMFG I love today.
MementoMoree 8h ago
Sorry for the typos, too excited.
Sebastian 8h ago
TP2 AND a dev blog?! Best news ever!
Sam 8h ago
Have you considered also the collector's box as the previous one? Considering to buy
Indiana 8h ago
Do a Kickstarter please. Love to throw my money on you for a Big Box ;)
Max 8h ago
Awesome news! Would this be a good time to add the achievements to the GOG version of Thimbleweed Park 1? I've always hoped it would be possible sooner or later.
Nickvog 8h ago
WONDERFUL news!!!! Is there any chance we get to contribute to this effort with a KICKSTARTER campaign, like the Thimbleweed Park 1??? I'd be awesome to have a physical Collector's Edition on this one too!!!
Yako Batchee 7h ago
I could never ever imagine to see a Thimbleweed Park 2 in this life.
You made my day/week/year/decade
Mindbender 7h ago
I really wish there would be a physical version of part 1. Missed it on Limited Run... :(
Mickey Hoz 7h ago
Fantastic news, I loved the first TP and loved RTMI even more.
I also loved the TP development podcast so keeping an ear open if that is also returning.
DanVzare 7h ago
Wow, this is a surprise. I thought that the original Thimbleweed Park was going to be a one off. I look forward to seeing how you continue from that ending.
Pouyan 7h ago
can't believe this is really happening, another great work of absurdism and surrealism from The Ron Gilbert.

one question though: will steve kirk do the soundtrack again? i loved his work and i still listen to TWP OST.
Fabián Cuesta 7h ago
Vamooooo neeeeeneeeee!
FL77 7h ago

Paralax 7h ago
Wow, you even brought the comment section back. Just like good old times :D
Zak Phoenix McKracken 7h ago
@ZakMckracken: Hi, nice to meet you.
Andrew S 6h ago
The bad news is that there is no bad news? I'm so confused right now. 😄

Happy to hear about the new game, though! Wishlisted.
Michael 6h ago
Congrats, can not wait! First game is amazing.
Kriss 6h ago
Finally some good gameing news in 2026 :)

This is THE BEST news, not just good news 🤩🤩🤩
Lev 6h ago
Hooray for the GOG version! Thank you!
Ricardo Ratatour 5h ago
What fantastic news!!! Thimbleweed Park is one of my all-time favorite games, so I couldn't be more excited to play this sequel. I really hope Thimbleweed Park 2 stays true to the spirit of classic point-and-click adventures while also daring to innovate with fresh mechanics and surprising gameplay.🙂
KineticEcho 5h ago
No Kickstarter? I dreamed of this sequel, and wished for a new campaign with physical rewards, like the phone book! There will be things like fan written books like the last time?
Rez 5h ago
PRAISE BE TO GILBERT!
Cláudio Fernandes 5h ago
Reading this as i'm almost done reviving my old amiga 500 and will try booting Monkey Island 1 to test it it's just as good as it gets :)
Martin Romanuk 5h ago
Hope you post about the development process, like you did with TWP1.
Is the game keeping the same engine? same retro-style?
Trond 5h ago
Amazing news! Looking forward to following your dev blog.
dcb 5h ago
You guys are awesome! My daughter will be the same age I had when I played Monkey Island for the first time. The signals are strong tonight!
Mota de polvo 5h ago
I was waiting for this news for ages!
Gonzalo Q 5h ago
AWSOMEEEEEEEE AIEEEEEEEEEEEE

Question: Will be a box/ signed/ special version like you did for the 1st game?

COngratulations and THANK YOU
sprud 5h ago
Incredible! From your previous posts I thought that there was no way to have another graphic adventure from you! Big up to the private investors and thank you Ron to keep pushing!

Barry Jowey 5h ago
Thanks mate! looking forward to it. Good luck!
Luca 5h ago
Non vedo l'ora!

I guess it time to play Thimbleweed Park again.
marianozz 5h ago
Hey Ron and guys, thanks for everything!
Matt 4h ago
In 2028 we’ll discover Thimbleweed Park 1 was actually a theme park =D
Shinetop 4h ago
This is an incredible news!

A massive thank you to Ron Gilbert, for the first game! I absolutely loved it, especially the ending.

(Monkey Island 2's ending trained me.....)
Thommek 4h ago
Can't wait for it! I'm really looking forward to the upcoming dev blog.
I thoroughly enjoyed your TWP1 dev blog, and I'm excited to follow along with this one as well!
Rapp Scallion 4h ago
Wow, this news is so incredible that I had to double-check it to fully believe it. Is today April Fools’ Day? Jeje. Oh, Ron, you’re full of surprises. First "Return to Monkey Island", now this. After that Thimbleweed Park ending?! Great, great news. 😁
Jose 4h ago
I played all your games—every single one!—and Thimbleweed 1 made me very happy. I’m really looking forward to it. Thanks for all your games, and thanks for continuing to make point-and-click adventures.
Jost L. Hansen 4h ago
I missed out adding lines to the original Thimbleweed Park. Will something similiar be possible in TP2?
Boybrush 4h ago
Big fan of Ron's work here. Everything... besides Thimble 1. Have to be honest: I loved the atmosphere, the story itself.. well, not that much. I hope Thimble 2 will turn the table
Moiz 4h ago
sad you guys didn't go the kickstarter route again. the phone message and box and being part of the game was the best.
Agent Mandarine 4h ago
Podcast! Podcast! Podcast! … pretty please? Been an point-and-click enjoyer since the golden days and really appreciated the dev podcast while waiting for TP. Wozld be awesome… no pressure though!
Ed Williams 3h ago
Great that it will be on GOG! A sale of the first game on GOG would be also nice.
vuvu 3h ago
totally love it
Nevial & Arolyn 3h ago
AHHHH!!! Yesss!!

We played TP on the beach in Tahiti on our honeymoon in Dec 2018, so it looks like I know what we’re doing on our 10-year anniversary! (Maybe this time with slightly fewer layovers…)
Tibba 3h ago
Even though I’ve been playing point-and-click graphic adventure games since the very first *Maniac Mansion*, it was this game (*TP1*) that finally convinced me I had to make my own. The fact that they’re making a sequel is great news, but thinking about all the games and developers that Ron and this team have inspired over the years is even more incredible!
Crocodile 3h ago
Fantastic news.

Hopefully we can "look at" people this time, I was sad this was missing from the first game. Assuming there are verbs still.
AstroTech_Guy 3h ago
Omg,
can't believe it. I thought, that you were a bit disappointed about the commercial success of the first game, but i'm happy to read, that someone with money believes in you(The game WAS and IS great). Love you, Ron and wish you and your team the very best. Please take your time and don't forget to take pauses :)
VG 3h ago
I believe nobody said 'squeeee' yet, so: SQUEEEEEEEEEEE!
Very much looking forward to it.

Will our speck of dust collection be importable from the first game, or will we have to start from scratch?
Stinking Pirate 3h ago
Being 46 years old and still having things to look forward to, like I was still a teenager, means more than you know.
CobraCommanda 2h ago
I'm SO EXCITED for this news, Ron! I ordered the original PC big box copy of Thimbleweed (love the extras!), the ThimbleCon poster, and eventually procured a Switch copy of the game (my BF won it for me in a redemption game at the Limited Run physical store--true story!). I've streamed it twice and played through the Dolores DLC as well. Love love love the Thimbleweed world and am beyond excited for a second installment, especially with Mark, Gary, et al. returning. This news brightened my week, so thank you!
ThorKa 2h ago
I Love this ! Is there a way to partcipate in a crowd funding on this ?
MH 2h ago
Great news! - I hope I'm still in the phone book in part 2.
arcanetrivia 2h ago
Also anyone going "How can you pick up after that ending?", despite the use of the number "2", this isn't necessarily going to be a chronological sequel. It could come before, or be some other relationship like just being another story in the same world.
Bruno C. 2h ago
Great, great news! Best of luck! I can't wait to play it!
Kuomodo 1h ago
Thank you, Ron! Looking forward to preordering this.
DrJ 1h ago
Bright news in dark times. So excited!!!
Simon 1h ago
Amazing!! Still holding out hope for more monkey island 🥺
Víctor R. Ruiz 1h ago
Shut up and take my monkey! I mean, money.
Julian D 1h ago
Looking forward to this! The best games I played are definitely LucasArts p&c adventure games and later on Ron Gilbert's games that followed after he left.
Dan 1h ago
Wow, the little kid in me just lit up. Way to make my day!!!
Fragola 1h ago
Hope it will be better than TP1, as that one was disappointing.
Enlo17 1h ago
No freaking way Ron!

You just made my day, what am I saying? My year! After quite some setbacks this year nothing was really cheering me up but this news?

Man this is great!

I have replayed Thimbleweed Park at least 20 times on my Switch and still I'm loving every new round!

Thank you for making this possible, hopefully a Switch release is possible as well but for now I hit that wishlist and follow button on Steam so hard it might be broken now.

Massively looking forward to this!
Stan S. stanman 1h ago
Its awesome news, another Ron Gilbert piece of art coming! Thank you very much
Barton Lynch 1h ago
As a long time fan of your work and blessed to have my 3 contribution books in the first game, this news come as a sudden rush of joy. I'm happy.
Max 13m ago
I'm more hyped for this than GTA 6.
Alex Hollis 8m ago
Well done sir! Jolly good.
Florian 5m ago

Here's hoping for a big box release eventually.
THATSPLUMS 3m ago
