Let’s get real. The entire foundation of these proprietary frontier models was built by stealing up the entire public internet without explicit creator consent. They scraped millions of creators, writers, and open source developers to build multi-billion dollar closed APIs, only to gatekeep the highest tiers of intelligence behind steep, restrictive pricing. Now that the open-source community and international providers are achieving near parity by using distillation techniques transferring that same intelligence into highly efficient, affordable open weights Big Tech wants to rewrite the rulebook on IP protection
