Common errors and fixes

Can't Access le.chat.mistral.ai

If the site fails to load or shows a connection error, the issue may be infrastructure, regional access, or your browser. Check the live status first, then try these steps:

  • Check live status: visit prismix.dev/service/mistral-chat or the official status.mistral.ai to confirm whether there is an active outage.
  • Try incognito or a different browser: browser extensions (ad blockers, privacy tools) can break the chat interface — an incognito window disables most extensions and reveals if that's the cause.
  • Regional access: some regions experience intermittent access issues with Mistral services. If you're outside the EU, connecting via a VPN to a European server may improve reliability.
  • Clear site data: go to your browser settings and clear cookies and cached data for le.chat.mistral.ai, then reload.

Login or Account Issues

Mistral Chat uses the same account system as La Plateforme (the API console). Magic Link login is the default method — it can have delivery delays:

  • Check spam folder: Magic Link emails come from [email protected] — they frequently land in spam or promotions folders. Allow up to 2 minutes for delivery.
  • Use Google OAuth: if Magic Link email isn't arriving, click "Continue with Google" on the login screen as a fallback — use the Google account that matches your mistral.ai registration email.
  • Same credentials for API and Chat: your mistral.ai account covers both Le Chat and La Plateforme (console.mistral.ai). There is no separate account for the chat interface.
  • Use the correct email: ensure you're logging in with the exact email registered at mistral.ai — email aliases or variations won't work.

Model Not Available or Slow Responses

The free tier and Pro tier have different model access. Response speed also varies by time of day:

Free tier models: Mistral Small and Mistral Nemo only. Mistral Large (the most capable model) requires Mistral Pro (€14.99/mo).
  • Mistral Large requires Pro: if you see "model not available" when selecting Mistral Large, you need a Pro subscription. Upgrade at le.chat.mistral.ai/settings.
  • Peak hours slowdown: EU business hours (9:00–18:00 CET) are the busiest. Free tier users have lower priority than Pro subscribers during this time.
  • Use Mistral Small for speed: if you don't need the largest model, switching to mistral-small-latest gives significantly faster responses on the free tier.
  • Canvas mode is Pro-only: the interactive code canvas editor is not available on the free tier.

Code Canvas or Tool Features Not Working

Le Chat has several advanced features that are either Pro-only or require explicit activation per conversation:

  • Canvas (code editor mode): requires Mistral Pro subscription. The canvas icon in the toolbar will be grayed out on the free tier — upgrade to unlock interactive code editing.
  • Web browsing: the "Search the web" toggle must be enabled per conversation — it does not persist across new chats. Click the web search icon in the chat input bar to activate it.
  • File upload (PDF/DOCX): supports files up to 50 MB. If upload fails, check that your file is within the size limit and is a supported format (PDF, DOCX, TXT, CSV).
  • Image upload: available only when a vision-capable model is selected (Mistral Large or Pixtral). Switching to Mistral Nemo will disable image upload.

Chat History Missing or Not Saving

If your previous conversations have disappeared or new messages aren't being saved, the cause is usually account vs. guest mode:

  • Sign in for persistent history: guest users' chat history is stored locally in the browser. Clearing browser data, switching devices, or using private mode will erase it. Sign in with your mistral.ai account for cloud-synced history.
  • History is per-device for guests: if you started chats as a guest on one device, those conversations are not visible after logging in or on another device.
  • Export your conversations: go to Settings → Data → Export conversations to download a copy of your chat history as a JSON file.
  • History not loading: if the sidebar shows no conversations but you know they exist, try a hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R / Cmd+Shift+R) or sign out and back in to force a sync.
